AUO Corporation ("AUO" or the "Company") (TAIEX: 2409; NYSE: AUO), today announced that the Company has been the proud recipient of three awards at The 2003 Gold Panel Display Awards Ceremony for Greatest Industry Contribution, Best Technology and Best Product. These recognitions cement AUO's leadership position in the flat panel technological arena.

The Gold Panel Display Awards is held annually by The National Science Council, The Industrial Development Bureau, and Office of Committee for Information Industry Development (OCIID) under The Ministry of Economic Affairs. The awards consist of 3 categories in which AUO has been recognized across the board. AUO has been awarded with "Greatest Industry Contribution" for Dr. Poyen Lu's great contributions in the Flat Panel Industry, "Best Technology" for 16ms Fast Response LCD, and "Best Product" for 26" wide format LCD TV with MVA wide view technology from G5 Fab.

AUO's Director and Executive Vice President, Dr. Poyen Lu has been honored with The Greatest Industry Contribution Award. Dr. Lu is presently in charge of TFT-LCD manufacturing operations, the New Technology Group and the Process/Product Technology Group for the company. After obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1982, Dr. Lu had extensive careers with Gould Labs, Bell Lab, and Electronics Research & Service Organization, Industrial Technology Research Institute. Dr. Lu's extensive knowledge and leadership has enabled swift sailing of AUO's advancements into new generation Technologies, developing it into the third largest corporate in the Flat Panel industry.

The 16ms Fast Response LCD recognized as "Best Technology" for 2003, has successfully implemented on commercialized products. Its fast response time technology prevents moving pictures from blurring under 16.7ms frame rate. To obtain optimal results, AUO designed and integrated LC material, pixel design, driving circuit, and other related components. This technique is applied in the company's 17" M170EN05 PC Monitor, which has received numerous acclaims from international media.

AUO's 26" wide format LCD TV with MVA wide view technology has been awarded for 2003's "Best Product". The 26" wide TFT LCD TV panel is the first TFT LCD TV panel manufactured by AU Optronics' Generation 5 fab in Taiwan. Several new technologies has been applied to achieve its superior performance, namely; WXGA resolution with 15:9 wide aspect ratio, MVA technology for viewing angel over 85 degrees in all directions, high color saturation of more than EBU 100% (NTSC 75%), 600 nits brightness, 600:1 contrast ratio and 16ms fast response time. AUO again outshined its technological leadership in large size TFT LCD TV panel manufacturing.
